American whaler Thule visited Salango Island according to the newspaper The Inquirer and Mirror dated Wednesday 1 January 1834

An item reported that the American whaler Thule (1) left on 31 August 1833 Salango.(2)

Hussey&Robinson, Nantucket, 1876. Former merchant man, bought, departed on 21 December 1832 to the Pacific Ocean, returned on 30 May 1835 270 barrels sperm oil, captain Josiah Smith left the ship at Talcahuani, second mater George Folger brought her home.

2. Salango Island, Ecuador was an anchorage for whalers for water and fresh provisions.
