Scharnhorst-class
Built as an answer on the British Invincible-class battle cruisers which the German believed of equal strength, in fact 12-21cm/8.3” against 8-30.5cm/12” guns. Preceded by Scharnhorst-class. Laid down by Kaiserlichte Werft Kiel, Germany launched on 11 Apil 1908, commissioned on 1 October 1909 and sunk in the Battle of Dogger Bank against the British Royal Navy on 24 January 1915.
