American hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH-19)

Sister ship is the USNS Comfort (T-AH-20).Laid down at the yard of the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company at San Diego, California, USA, on 12 June 1974 as the oil tanker SS Worth (MA-299), launched on 1 July 1975, conversion into a hospital ship started at the same yard in July 1984, launched as the Mercy on 20 July 1985, commissioned on 8 November 1986 and still in service.  Fitted out with a helicopter landing deck. With a displacement of 69,360 long tons are her dimensions 894’ x 105’7” x 33‘. The two boilers and two turbines supplied 24,500shp allowing a speed of 17,5 knots. Depending on the reduced or operating status are on board 12 civilians and 58 military or 61 civilians and 1,214 military. It takes 5 days to turn to full operating status.
