London, 2 September. According to letters from Pernambuco dated 19 July left general Madeira 2 July Bahia returning to Lisbon without any agreement with lord Cochrane. The latter followed the Portuguese squadron and captured 21 ships of different sizes and tried with all efforts to capture the ship of the line Don Joao VI with on board general Madeira and all the money and accessions the latter take away from the churches and inhabitants from Bahia.
