Colombian privateers active in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 10 October 1825

Madrid, 23 September. The Spanish brigantine de Carenen recently arrived at Cadiz coming after a voyage of 13 days from San Andero and Rivader with a cargo of fanegas 1.200 corn. Her master told that they around 9 hours west off Cape Sines were board by a brigantine of the South American Independents which take away victuals, tools, books and rigging. The privateer handed over 20 sailors which came from the captured Spanish yacht el San Francisco de Assisi and the brigantine la Concepcion. The first ship came from Milla Gracia with a cargo of eggs and wine, the latter from Luarca with a cargo of cheese. The ships were captured 2 and 10 September. The privateer armed with 3 guns and a swivel were since some days cruising in the waters around cape Sines. Apparently this news item was earlier published in the l’Oracle.

Paris, 6 October. Some merchants of Catalonia which came via Bordeaux or Marseille from Cuba passed 22 and 23 September through Perpignan to return homewards. Their ship was however boarded by some Colombian privateers and their passes taken away while there to be paid a contribution.
