The Egyptian, Libyan, Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 8 November 1824

Odessa, 3 (15 October. Letters from Constantinople dated 9 and 10 October supplied more details about the latest events. After the battle at Samos was 10 September again fought between the Egyptian, Turkish and Greek navies. The Greeks burnt the beautiful frigate Africa, 1 corvette and 2 brigs and captured 16 transports. Eight Greek ships were damaged and went for repairs to Samos. Altogether were 150 Greek sailors killed or wounded. In a third battle off Padmos burnt the Greeks 2 frigates and 4 brigs. Three days later in a 4th battle off Mitylene burnt the Greek 3 frigates and captured 4 brigs, all part of the Turkish fleet and some transports. The commanding officer of the Tripolitian fleet Ismail Gibraltar brother in law of the Pasha of Egypt was taken prisoner. Although the Turkish offered 200.000 piasters for his release the Greek admiral Miaulis requested 8 frigates and some other terms. He still pursued the Egyptian-Turkish fleet so hardly that the Captain Pasha just with his admirals’ ship, 1 frigate and 10 transports reached safely the Dardanelles. Captain Bassalatos who arrived at Odessa confirmed the events. He entered the same day as the Captain Pasha the Dardanelles and that the Greeks still pursued the shattered Turkish ships.
