London, 18 January. The floating dock which was added to the shipyard at Devonport would be towed to the just dredged anchorage on 20 January. The dock was capable to dock all the major ships of the Royal Navy except for the battle cruiser HMS Hood which measured 41,000 tons.(1)

HMS Hood was ordered on 7 April 1916, laid down at John Brown & Company on 1 September 1916, launched 22 August 1918, commissioned 15 May 1920 and lost during a battle with the German battleship Bismarck on 24 May 1941. She had a displacement of 46,680 long tons/47,430 tons while full load with as dimensions 860’7”x 104’2”x 32’0”.
