Belonged to the Wittelsbach-class with as sister ships the Wittelsbach, Wettin, Zähringen and Mecklenburg.This class was preceded by the Kaiser Friedrich III-class and succeeded by the Braunschweig-class. Laid down at the Kaiserliche Weft at Wilhelmshaven, Germany in November 1900, launched on 19 august 1901, commissioned on 13 April 1904 as a an artillery training ship, after 1918 she became a depot ship for the F type minesweepers, was stricken 8 March 1921 and sold to same year to be broken up at Kiel-Nordmole.
With a displacement of 12,798 tons or 12,596 long tons were her dimensions 16,8 x 22,8 x 7,95 metres. The 3 three cylinder vertical triple expansion engines supplied 14,000 ihp allowing a maximum speed of 18 knots while she had a range of 5,000 nautical miles by a speed of 10 knots. Her crew numbered 680 men. The armament consisted of 2 x 2-9.4” guns (turrets fore and aft), 18 x 5.9” guns, 12 x 3.5” guns and 6 x 18” surfaced torpedo tubes. The armour consisted of a 100-225mm thick belt, a 50mm thick deck while the gun turrets were protected by 250mm.
