The Greek admiral Andreas Vokos Miauli according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 8 July 1825
Frankfurt, 3 July. In a newspaper was a description of the live of the Greek admiral Andreas Vokos Miauli published. According to this description he was born from poor parents at Negropont. He was named Miauli after a ship with this name owned by a Turk at Crete. In the beginning he was just a poor master but climbed up in the coastal trade by hard work. Despite the British cruisers he managed to enter Spanish and French harbours during the last war between England and France earning large amounts of money. At Hydra was a large ship build for him used for the trade but which was wrecked and lost with the cargo while destined towards Portugal. After some time he owned again a own ship. When the Greek revolt against the Turkish begun he didn’t directly take part in it. Finally he choose the Greek side and won two fights off Patras. He was responsible for the list causing the failure of the Kapudan pasha and was also partly responsible after the destruction of Ipsara of preventing the Turkish and Egyptian fleets causing more misery.
