The Greek and Turkish navies in the Levant according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 24 September 1821

Vienna, 11 September. The newspaper Oesterreichischer Beobachter published several items dated Livorno 3 September. According to one item met the master of the Austrian vessel Serovitsch arriving at Livorno coming from Smyrna 14 July the Turkish fleet in the channel of Scio. She consisted of 4 ships of the line, 7 frigates and 13 brigs. The Turkish fleet threatened 16 July Scala Nuova with a landing but retreated to Samos. The same master met 22 July three Greek divisions, one of 70; one of 30 and of 20 vessels of the 3rd rank and different sizes included 12 fire ships underway towards the channel of Scio. So the latest tidings again didn’t confirm the rumours dealing with a large battle 18 July although it was still possible that the Greeks captured some transports.

Pesth, Hungary, 1 September. According to rumours ended the Greek fleet the blockade of the harbour of Thessalonica.
