HMS Badger captured the smuggler Three Brothers according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 23 January 1823

 London, 17 January. According to a tiding from Dover dated 14 January arrived in the afternoon Henry Wingfield helmsman of the cutter HMS Badger as prize master of the beautiful cutter or dandy the Three Brothers. The latter ship was sighted yesterday morning between Boulognes and Etaples on a 3 hours sailing distance from the coast and pursued. After one gun shot fled the Three Brothers while firing with her stern guns and after a fight of 6½ hours surrendered the cutter. It was appeared to be the Three Brothers destined for the Faro islands with a considerable cargo of tea, tobacco and liqueurs on board not being authorized to import the cargo and armed with 4 iron 6pdr carronades, some swivels (still called steenstukken) and rifles. Her crew numbered 27 men of which her master and one sailor were killed and 7 others wounded. On board of the Badger was the officer Cullum killed and her commanding officer lieutenant Nazar, the by mate and 3 sailors wounded.
