Naval arms race between Germany and England according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlands-Indië dated 10 February 1906

The British newspaper Times represented a list of the German naval shipbuilding in 1905 and concluded that it had been a rather calm year with 2-13,200 tons battleships, 2-9,500 tons armoured cruisers and 3 small cruisers completed. The British numbers were more positive with 17 ships against 7 and a total displacement of 155,200 tons against 55,000 tons. But looking back at the same list were in 1905 the keels laid down at German shipyards of 10 battleships, 4 armoured cruiser and 11 protected cruisers. Although not really alarming proved these numbers that Germans intentions had to be followed by England.
