The Nederlandsche Handelsmaatschappij in the year 1836 according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 8 June 1837

The Hague, 8 June. In the ordinary annual meeting of the board of the Nederlandsche Handelsmaatschappij were the results of 1836 part of the conversations. That year was in the Netherlands 98 merchant ships freighted with a total capacity of around 32.000 lasten and at Batavia another 7 ships with homeward bound cargoes. Of the ships which were freight in 1835 stayed behind the Jonge Jan with entered with damage Rio Janeiro and the Marij en Hillegonda which sailed to Japan. Master Hermanni of the bark ship Sumatra was with the helmsman Roos while sailing from Padang towards Pondicherry by the constable and a part of the crew murdered. The murderers however brought the ship safely to Calcutta where they were punished by the court.
