American escort carrier carrier USS Bogue (CVE-9) 1941-1960



Of the Bogue-class. Original classification was as Aircraft Escort Vessel AVG-9, altered 20 August 1942 into Auxiliary Aircraft Carrier ACV-9, altered 15 July 1943 into Escort Carrier CVE-9 and finally 12 June 1955 into Escort Helicopter Aircraft carrier CVHE-9. Laid down as the Steel Advocate (hull no. 170) Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding in Tacoma (Washington Maritime Commission Contract), launched 15 January 1942, sponsored by Mrs. W. Miller jr, handed over to the USS Navy 1 May 1942, commissioned 26 September 1942, decommissioned 30 November 1946, stricken 1 March 1959 and finally sold to Hyman-Michales Co. Chicago and towed to Everett, Washington to be scrapped, other sources claimed she was sold to and scrapped in Japan in 1960. With a displacement of 7,800 tons standard and 15,700 tons full load (design) her dimensions were 495'7"/495'8" (maximum)-465'0" (waterline) x 111'5" (maximum)-69'5" (waterline) x 23'25"-26'0". Her engines delivered 8.500 ship allowing a speed of 16,6 or 18 knots. De crew numbered 890 men. She was armed with original 2-5"guns since 1943 8x2-40mm guns later that year 27x1-20mm guns and carried 24 aircraft.
