Tidings from Portsmouth dated 20 April reported that lord Durham , the new governor for the British possessions in North America was expected to arrive next day and to go immediately on board of the British 84-gun HMS Hastings which was lying ready with a crew of 600-or 700 men. A transport with the servants and horses of the lord on board left Portsmouth the 19th. A day earlier left two British warships with on board regiments soldiers destined for Canada.
