The Egyptian, French and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 11 August 1838

According to several tidings was the Turkish fleet commanded by the Capudan pasha 16 July still lying anchored off the entrance of the Dardanelles. Among the fleet appeared a dangerous contagious disease. According to some tidings however appeared the Turkish fleet off Mitylene. There was some fears that the Turkish fleet would collided with the Egyptian fleet which left Alexandria 15 July. The French squadron commanded by admiral Gallois which was to prevent such collision was the 16th still off Tripoli with the intention to sail towards Tunis.
