The newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung published tidings from Constantinople dated 11 July according to which the Porte decided to fitted all ships still lying in the harbour and reinforce the army, to be prepared for war with the Egyptian pasha Mehemet-Ali. If the latter indeed broke all relations with the sultan the Turkish squadron which was all ready at sea had to attack the Egyptian fleet.
