Naval strength of the Dutch East Company at West Coast of Sumatra in 1683

In 1683 a list was made of the ships, vessels and so on, belonging to the Dutch East Company. For most of the ships was given an indication of her condition, sometimes what kind of ship, her measurement and the first time she was outward bound. I added to each vessels using other sources.
Classification ‘A’ suitable for all fairways.
Classification ‘B’ suitable for calm fairways like in the Eastern provinces, Malacca, Siam, West Coast of Sumatra, Palembang and Jambij.
Classification ‘C’ just suitable for some service in the Indies, mainly off the East Coast of Java and other factories.

Nieuw Middelburg, first outward bound to the Dutch East Indies 1665, 450 last. Just suitable for service in calm fairways, maximum classification a ‘C’.(1)
Hoogergeest, 180 last, was expected coming within short time from Sumatra and was needed for service on this factory.(2)
Boode, hooker, 70 last, classification ‘B’, was lately repaired and sent back to this factory, able to serve for 2-3 years.(3)
Chialoupen
Neptinus, after being repaired sent back to this factory
Lauriertack, new and wellLelij, new and well
Rooseboom
Sonneblom, small and serving off Baros, more details unknown to the authors of the list
Steur, small, unsuitable but serving off Baros
2 war pantjalangs sent to this factory for patrolling.

1. The Middelburg mentioned by Bruijn, chamber Zealand, built 1664, with a tonnage of 846 metric tons, master Peter Pietersz, departing the Wielingen 21 December 1664, staying at Cape of Good Hope 18 August-1 September 1865 and arriving at Batavia 9 November 1665 with 103 sailors, 71 soldiers and 3 passengers? According to the Daghregister of Batavia the Nieuw Middelburgh, ship, departed Batavia towards the West Coast towards Sumatra 8 October 1683. There were in this period by the chamber Zealand two ships built called Middelburg. The Middelburg, on stocks by Cornelis Speldernieuw sr. at E.I.C-yard at Middelburg, Netherlands 1663, and launched 20 May 1664 and the ship Wapen van Middelburgh, , on stocks by Cornelis Speldernieuw sr. at E.I.C-yard at Middelburg, Netherlands 1664 and launched 1 April 1666, dimensions 142 x 34 x 14.
2. pinnace, E.I.C.-chamber Amsterdam, built 1682, dimensions 120 x 30 x 13¼.
According to Bruijn with a tonnage of 222 tons, built 1681, pinnace/yacht, departed Texel 18 December 1682, stayed at Cape of Good Hope 4-24 April 1683 and arrived 13 April 1686 at Batavia. Sailed via Madagascar, Ceylon, Malabat towards the West Coast of Sumatra transporting 274 slaves of which just 108 survived the voyage. Between 27 June 1684-28 June 1685 at last mentioned factory. According to the Daghregister of Batavia a fluyt, news of the departure from Cape of Good Hope towards Madagascar dated 4 October 1683. According to Hudde a pinnace, chamber Amsterdam, built >1681-1682<, dimensions 120-122 x 30-31 x 12-13¼, Dutch measurement cargo capacity 227 last, measurement at Batavia, Dutch East Indies cargo capacity 220 last. According to Stapel a pinnace with the dimensions 120 x 30 x 13. ¼
