The Norwegian navy in 1854 according to the Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant dated 26 May 1854

The Crimean war between Russia and other European powers like England also influenced the situation in the Baltic. The Norwegian navy of 2 ships of the line, 4 frigates, 2 steam corvettes and 1 cutter brig arrived at Elsnaben and was visited by the king. The sailors on board the fleet were quite enthusiastic with the idea of action against Russia. The yards were building a large amount of new gunboats.
