Russian river monitor Mariupol (former Rumanian Ion C. Bratianu) around 1944

This monitor was built by the STT at Trieste for the Rumanian navy the Ion C. Bratianu in 1907 and assembled at Galatz. Sister ships were the Lascar Catargiu, Michail Kogalniceanu and the Alexandru Lahovari all built in 1907-1908. Displacement 680 tons and dimensions 208’4”x 33’10” x 5’3”. The two engines provided 1.800 ihp allowing a speed of 13 knots. The armour existed of 3’ sides, 3’ deck, 3” turrets and 2’ conning tower. In Rumanian service the crew numbered 110 men. Original armed with 3-120mm, 2-120mm howitzers, 4-47mm guns and 2-6.5mm machine guns. In August taken over by Russia and as the Mariupol part of the Danube Flotilla commissioned.
