Russian sailors protested against the quality of their food according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 13 July 1905

Reval [Tallinn, Estonia], 12 July. Of the crews on board of the Russian warships anchored in this port refused around 700 sailors that afternoon their food because it was disgusting. Some representatives were send to the commanding officer who tasted their food and who agreed with them. The officer responsible for the food distribution was dismissed and send to prison for 8 days with limited rights. He was accused by the sailors that he stole a part of the money which was to be used for food. Sailors on board of the ships of the Minin and Kreml were not allowed to carry arms afraid for mutiny.(1)'
