Argentinean cruiser Veinticinco de Mayo (C-2) 1927-1960


Laid down at the Odero Terni Orlando yard, Italy on 29 November 1927, launched on 11 August 1929, commissioned on 11 July 1931 and broken up in 1960. Her sister ship was the Almirante Brown. With a displacement of 6,800 (normal)-9,000 (full load) tons were her dimensions 170,8 x 17,8 x 4,7 metres or 560’3”x 58’5’x 15’3”. The Parsons supplied 84,000 hp driven 2 screws allowing a speed of 32 knots and with a speed of 14 knots was her range 8,000 nautical miles. Her crew numbered 600 men. The armament consisted of 6-7.5” guns, 12-4” guns, 6-40mm anti aircraft guns, 6-21”torpedo tubes and she carried with her 2 Grumman J2F Duck planes stored below the foredeck and catapulted over the bow.The armour consisted of a 1” deck while the sides were protected by 2.8”, the gun turrets by 2” and the conning tower by 2.3”.
