Dutch ramturret Hr.Ms. Schorpioen 1867-nowadays still existing


After a service of accomodationship for the MARVA, the Schorpioen was brought to Flushing where she was repaired/restored at the Schelde yard at Flushing. After some years she was transferred from here to Middelburg and since then brought back to Den Helder where she is lying as museum ship. In her actual service she served as accommodation ship at Wilemsoord (Den Helder), Hellevoetsluis, Flushing, Gorinchem and finally again Den Helder. In the Second World War captured by he Germans and transferred to Germany where she was found back at the end of the war.

On stocks at the Soc. des forges et Chantiers at Toulon, France 1867 and launched 18 January 1868. Dimensions 58,95 x 11,58 x 4,85m, displacement 2175 ton, 2269 iph, speed, 12.82 knots, originally 2 rifled 23cm guns, 110 later 137 men.
