Mutiny within the Brazilian navy according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland evening edition dated 9 October 1930

New York, 9 October. From Rio de Janeiro were tidings received that the Brazilian president Washington Luis (1) resigned although this could not be confirmed. On board of the Brazilian fleet broken mutiny out and the fleet chose the side of the rebels. According to a news item dated Paris 9 October were 9 of the 20 states in hands of the rebels.

1. Luis (Macaé 26 October 1869-Sao Paulo 4 August 1957) was president in the period 15 November 1926-1930 but was unable to stabilize the economy as a result of the world wide economic crisis while Brazil all ready suffered from a huge foreign debts and a collapsed coffee market while coffee was a major Brazilian export product. Luis was deposed on 24 October 1930 by Getúlio Vargas and no able to full fill his term.
