The Turkish and Egyptian navies according to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 10 September 1839

Mehemet discharged all pilots and most of the ships directors (?). On board each ship was normally a pilot. The Turkish sailors were quite discontented. The coins of silver, which they brought with them from Constantinople, were by order of Mehemet devalued to the half of the original value. Due to the fact that the Turkish fleet didn’t possess any other money caused this order unpleasant scenes.
