Naval operations of the Dutch East Company at Cape of Good Hope according to the Generale Missive dated 30 November 1729

The Haarlem wrecked on the cliffs near the Zoute Rivier 4 December 1728 by which accident 91 of the 107 crewmembers died. The fluyt Saksenburg sunk in the night of 8-9 January when she struck the reef off Aguilhas. Just 6 Europeans and a black boy survived. The homeward bound fleets of Batavia and Ceylon, altogether 26 ships, arrived safely in the Tafelbaai. News arrived of a heavily armed British privateer operating between the Netherlands and the Cape.
