Naval operations of the Dutch East Company in Ternate according to the Generale Missive dated 30 November 1729

The Wassenaar arrived 18 September 1729 with a cargo of 3000 pikol/375.000 lb sapan wood with a value of 7500, coming from Bima. The officers of the Wassenaar, the frigate D’Uno and the sloep Ondank were between 2 November and 25 May made complete responsible for the shortcomings in the cargo. The sloep Vlaming was sent out for patrolling off Halmaheira, the Papuan and Obi-islands, didn’t met any smugglers, but became troubles with the Mabarezen. It was decided to speak with the radja of Tidore how to handle with this problem. The master of the Schoteroog, Teunis Hendrix van Staal, was ordered to justify his behaviour after complaints from the rulers of Gorontalo and Limbotto. Those rulers supplied men and vessels for patrolling in the trend of Toni, together with captain Van Staden. The company possessed in this territory 1 sloep, 2 sampans, 2 orembaaien and one boat (a so-called landdschuit), civilians owned 5 vessels.
