London, 23 May. According to letters from New York dated 18 April was 9 February a battle at sea between the navies of Brazil and Buenos Aires. The first fleet consisted of 12 ships and 22 gunboats, the second of 6 ships and 12 gunboats. The ship Emma Matilda of Philadelphia, which arrived 18 March at Pernambuco coming from Buenos Aires, mentioned that the Brazilian navy lost the battle and of her frigates was even stranded.
