The Turkish navy in the Levant according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 27 April 1839

The fleet was with all efforts fitted out and to depart within 14 days. It would consisted of 7 ships of the line, 12 frigates and further more smaller vessels. The British officers left Constantinople refusing to serve as instructors while the Sultan did not want them to command ships as was expected by the officers. Just captain Walker, the only one to command a ship, stayed behind.
