British navy intended to reduce the expenses according to the Dutch newspaper De Waarheid dated 3 August 1956

An item reported that the First Lord of the Admiralty Lord Cilcennin in the House of Lords announced that the navy intended to reduce the expenses.(1) Some training facilities were to be closed and the number of naval bases decreased as a result of the new strategy and mobility of the fleet.

1. This must be James Thomas, 1st Viscount Cilcennin (13 October 1903-13 July 1960), a conservative politician but also First Lord of the Admiralty between 31 October 1951 and 2 September 1956 and in 1943-1945 Financial Secretary to the Admiralty.
