Indonesian sailors trained in West Germany according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated 17 June 1953

An item reported that twenty sailors of the Indonesian navy during three weeks were to be trained on board of the German training ship Deutschland in the harbour of Bremen. After this period was their training continued on board of the training ship now being build at Hamburg for the Indonesian navy and which was to be brought in July by a German crew to Indonesia.(1)

1. This must be the iron built barquentine Dewarutji launched at the shipyard of H.C. Stülken&Sohn, Hamburg on 24 January 1953 and completed on 9 July that same year. With a sail area of 1,305 square yards or 1,091 square metres was a speed of 8-12 knots possible and with the 600 bhp Man diesel was a speed of 5-10 knots. With a displacement of 810-1,500 (full load) tons were her dimensions 136 1/6 (between perpendiculars)-191¼ (over all) x 31 1/6 x 13 7/8 feet.
