The capture of the Spanish transport Perla by the Chilean Aquilla according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 26 February 1818

peruAn item dated London 20 February reported that according to newspapers received from Buenos Aires and dated until 7 November 1817 the Spanish transport Perla was captured by the Chilean brig Aquilla. The Perla left on 6 May Cadiz towards Lima as part of a convoy of transports escorted by the frigate Esmeralda which had 1,200 men on board. While sailing around Cape Horn lost the Perla contact with the convoy and was captured by the Aquilla without any resistance despite being fitted out as a corvette and armed with 16 guns. On board of her were some officers, monks and troops and a cargo with an estimated value of 400,000 piasters. The Aquilla was after this capture ordered to pursue the convoy.
