Japanese merchant shipbuilding according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 24 February 1937

An item dated Tokyo 18 February reported that according to details published by the Japanese Shipowners Association at that moment 141 ships of more as 1,000 tons were being build or intended to be build. Totally measurement of this new building was 883,200 tons of which 104 freighters with a total tonnage of 613,400 tons, 20 tankers with a total tonnage of 158,850 tons, 8 whaler mother ships with a total tonnage of 69,250 tons and 9 passenger ships with a total tonnage of 41,700 tons.(1)
