British navy trawler Kingston Cornelian sunk in a collision with the French passengership Chella according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 8 January1940

An item reported that the British navy trawler Kingston Cornelian (1) of 449 ton sunk in the Strait of Gibraltar due to a collision with the French passenger ship Chella of 8,920 ton. The Chella was slightly damaged and now being repaired. None of the 16 men on board of the trawler survived the disaster. The Vlissingse Courant dated 8 January confirmed the item adding that the Chella which some passengers soon was able to depart for sea again.
