Dutch patrol boats and the Australian airline Quantas according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 5 May 1939

An item reported the building of patrol boats on the Marine establishment at Soerabaja, Dutch East Indies. These boats were to be used of guarding the sea waters around Soerabaja and to keep the water landings lane for Quantas flyboats free by arrival or departure.(1) The boats were not cheap with building costs around 35,000 Dutch guilders for each unit. Their speed was of the utmost importance but this seemed to be also the main problem in practice. In fact the boats were a failure and the Dutch newspaper Javabode reported that that the commanding officer of the Dutch East Indies naval take all measures to solve this problem and prevent more waist of money. At the same time visited Kenney and Brain of Quantas Bandoeng asking to fasten the availability of these boats.
