French naval conscription according to the Dutch newspaper De Noord-Brabanter dated 28 June 1853

The minister of navy ordered that the voluntary conscription for the crews of the ships of the line not longer existed. The newspapers Algemeen Handelsblad dated 25 June and De Nederlander dated 27 June confirmed this item. The Bredasche Courant dated 23 June reported from Toulon that the coming conscription of sailors would number 4,000 men. The official order for the fitting out of two new ships of the line was expected to arrive any moment.
