British minister of Defence stated that Darwin was not to replace Singaport as British naval base according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Indisch dagblad: de Preangerbode dated Monday 19 August 1957

An item reported that the British minister of defence Duncan Sandys on last Friday at Darwin stated that England did not intend to leave her naval base at Singapore and to replace it with a new base at Darwin. (1)
