Problems aboard of the cattle transport Manitou underway to London according to the Dutch newspaper Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode dated 12 October 1899

An item reported the story of the master of the cattle transport Maniton who arrived some days earlier at London. Among the cattlemen were often country movers trying to save their travel costs in this manner. When the ship left New York started directly problems with the cattlemen. One of them was a 30 year old Austrian who saved 250 dollars by working in the USA. He was robbed and when he complained by the master who could not help afraid for more trouble. This decision caused the Austrian to become mad and finally he was locked up in chains however he committed suicide by jumping overboard.
