American transport Panama sunk according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 5 November 1898

An item reported that according to a telegram received from Santiago the American transport Panama was sunk on 1 November off Cape Maysi underway from Santiago towards New York. Of the 300 men on board were just a few saved. A fisherman picked up a wreck piece with the name of the ship on it.
