An item reported that according to a statement of the maritime authorities of Papudo, a small port near Valparaiso the crew of the British steamship Charcas was embarked by the armed German transport Prins Eitel Fritz.(1) The German transport had destroyed the British ship off Corral, Chile.

This auxiliary cruiser was a dormer so-called Reichspostdampfer of the Norddeutschen Lloyd launched on 27 September 1904 at the shipyard AG Vulcan at Stetttin. Her armament consisted of 4-10,5cm quick firing guns and 6-8,8cm guns. The Charcas with a gross tonnage of 5,067 tons was destroyed on 5 December.
