Belgium did not need a navy according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated 16 March 1914

An item reported that the premier in the parliament stated that the Belgian cabinet was against a navy while she was not necessary for the defence of the coast and rivers neither for maintaining the communication between Belgium and Congo.
