Belgian merchant marine needed more ships according to the Dutch newspaper Groninger Courant dated 24 February 1854

An item dated Antwerp, Belgium 24 February referred to other newspaper that the at Antwerp built merchant frigate l’Eugénie was being fitted out to leave next week. The resting merchant ships Van der Werf of 900 and the Macassar of 600 tons were also destined to leave on short term. The newspaper Journal referred to the announced efforts of the government to support the shipbuilding industry to replace the losses.
