Landing craft San Rafael (BA-103) of Dominican Republic 1946-1960




Laid down on 12 May 1944 at the shipyard of the Draco Corporation, Wilmington, Delaware, USA, launched on 28 June, commissioned in the US navy on 26 July and decommissioned on 2 May 1946. Former American U.S.S. LSM 216 (medium landing ship) purchased in November 1946 and stricken in 1960. With a displacement of 520 (light)-743/753 (standard)-1.095(full load) tons were her dimensions 196½ (waterline)-203½ over all) x 34½ x 3’6”light forward)/6‘4“(forward fully loaded)-7‘8“ (light aft)/8‘3“ (aft fully loaded). The two diesel allowed a speed of 11 knots. Her crew numbered 36 men, in US navy service 59 men. In US navy service armed with 1x4cm gun on the bow and further more 4x1-2cm gun fittings. The conning station, pilot house and the guns were protected by splinter shields.
