American cruiser USS Cleveland launched according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1901/1902 no. 8


An item referred to the magazine Army and Naval Journal which reported that the cruiser Cleveland was launched with a displacement of 3.200 tons and as dimensions 292' (waterline’)-302'‘(over all) x 43´3¼” x 15´9` (medium). Speed 16,5 miles. One of the six with a wood doubling fitted cruisers ordered on 3 March 1899.(1)

Denver-class protected cruiser, preceded by Columbia-class and succeeded by St. Louis-class, building ordered on 3 March 1899, laid down by Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, USA on 1 June 1900, launched on 28 September 1901, commissioned on 2 November 1903, reclassified PG-33 on 7 JUly 1920, CL-21 on 8 August 1921, stricken on 13 December 1929 and sold to be broken up on 7 March 1930.
