Old Italian battleships modernized according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1933 no. 2

An item referred to the magazine Revue Maritime dated November 1932 which used the Marina Italiana dated November 1932 as source while reporting that the four old battleships Cajo Duilio, Giulio Cesare (1), Conte di Cavour and Andrea Doria were to be modernized instead of the building of a new 23.000 ton battle ship. The decision to built the latter was delayed. Of the four battleships were the watertight compartmentalisation and the naval fire control system to be improved Further more were the engines to be replaced and the horsepower to be increased allowing a speed of 26 knots. Total costs of this modernization was estimated to be around 13.000.000 Dutch guilders.
