Royal British Navy building Holland-design submarines according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1901-1902 no. 4

An item referred to the magazine Army and Naval Journal reporting that the British Royal Navy ordered the firm Vickers-Maxim to build submarines of the Holland-design. This firm was the only firm at that moment allowed to built abroad the USA such submarines. With a length of 60’ was their speed 7/8 (submerged)-10 (surfaced) miles. Could carry with them 5 torpedoes. Their building already started in September before the British Parliament approved this causing the first one already to be launched in May.

Note
1. The Dutch navy was also interested in this design but in first instance did not built one. See for instance the note on http://warshipsresearch.blogspot.nl/2012/05/dutch-interest-in-american-submarine.html However the Dutch shipyard Kon.Mij. De Schelde bought the license for a Holland 7P design from the Electric Boat Company and built the Luctor et Emergo which became the Hr.Ms. O1 in service of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Her keel was laid down on 1 June 1904. The shipyard even nearly managed to appoint Holland himself as employee. In the period ending in 1940 this shipyard built 19 submarines for the Royal Netherlands Navy and one called Orzel for the Polish navy.
