An item referred to the magazine le Yacht reporting that the German admiralty decided as a result of the battle of Yalu (1) not to use wood anymore for building or panelling her warships because these parts were inflammable. The plans were even to replace chairs and so on made of wood by steel. It seemed to be that the USA decided in the same way.

1. The Battle of the Yalu River was fought on 17 September 1894 in the Korea Bay, near the Yalu River between the Chinese an the Japanese navies in which the first one was decisive defeated.
