Canadian government fleet still not large enough according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf dated 26 July 1919

An item reported that the Canadian government fleet numbered 7 cargo ships with the expectation that the same year another 13 would come available. According to the government program was the total tonnage that year to be built 100.00 ton. October 1920 was this program to be executed resulting in a number of 45 ships with a total tonnage of 300.000 tons. In the meantime became clear that the Canadian National Railway with an end station at Vancouver and the Grand Trunk Pacific with an end station at Prince Rupert were in fact part of the government system. With other words there were more ships needed for the Pacific trade with the ships at that moment commissioned were mainly used for the North Atlantic and West Indies shipping.
