USA interested in building barges of reinforced concrete according to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 8 August 1941
An
item reported that the US Shipping Board organized a conference for experts in
the concrete industry to discuss the possibilities of building large barges
using concrete instead of steel causing by lacking latter building material.
The barges had as dimensions of approximately 350 x 45-50 x 30 feet and a loading
capacity of around 6.000 tons.
