William Petersen wanted to buy Canadian government fleet according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 16 May 1925

An item reported that the ship owner sir William Petersen (1) offered the Canadian cabinet to buy their cargo ships. Conditions were a payment of 300.000 pound sterling by the government to make the ship again seaworthy and would received a Lloyd’s  classification. The cabinet was considering his proposal.

1. He died unexpectedly on 12 June at the age of 69 years. He was against a monopoly in the oceanic shipping and the main witness in the rates investigation of the Canadian government commission. He was for instance chairman of Petersen and Co. Ltd. London, founder and director of the London-American Maritime Trading Co. Ltd.
